Launching Tornadoes 30th Anniversary
It's no coincidence that Tornadoes Swim Club started their year with a special anniversary launch on September 29, 2018. Tornadoes Swim Club launched a year of activities to celebrate turning 30 in 2019 at St. Andrews High School where it all began.
In 1989 three amazing women began our club: Coach Jackie, Pat Compust, and Auntie Kim and thirty years later our club holds a formidable place in Jamaica's swimming history.
Highlights of the evening planned by our executive, in the company of Mrs. Beckford and Alan Beckford (mother and brother of Coach Jackie), Auntie Kim and her daughter Kadian, the VP of swimming Mrs. Georgia Sinclair, our coaching team, parents and swimmers was the presentation by the President of the JOA; Mr. Christopher Samuda and the President of the ASAJ; Mr. Martin Lyn.
Mr. Lyn spoke to the improvements coming to the swimming facilities upgrading it to a more comfortable and world class facility. Mr. Samuda's words resonated to our swimmers of" being a champion" and "to never give in to failure". He reminded them to own their talent and be proud.
Swimmer Celine Samuels, Coach Miguel, mom Annelies Denny shared their Tornadoes experience. A vote of thanks was moved by Sabrina Lyn and Nathaniel Thomas.
A symbolic cake cutting was done with all coaches, the Beckfords, the JOA and ASAJ, and the Ingletons.
Many more events and activities are being planned for the 30th; namely the family overseas swim meet scheduled for April 25-29, 2019 in Florida with the Gulf Coast Swim Team in Fort Myers, Florida. (See Michael Critchlow for more info), the JJTC production of "Annie" in January 2019 and our very own swim meet in May 2019.
This year is a to celebrate our Greatness come out and support and enjoy the fun.
