Alvaranga steals show on record-breaking night at Carifta Swimming Champs

On a night when Jamaica tallied 18 medals in the pool, which included six gold, nine silver and three bronze, it was Zaneta Alvaranga who stole the show with individual and relay gold medals. The individual gold was secured in record fashion at the 34th staging of the Carifta Swimming Championships in Barbados.

The 13-year-old was in sizzling form as she swam to a championship record of 27.84s in the 50m Butterfly for 13-14 girls. It was the fastest time swam in the event in any age group on the night and the second-fastest in the history of the Carifta Championships. Her teammate Sabrina Lyn took the silver in a time of 29.13.
